I found Corn on the Cob holders (5 or 6) on the shelf where the toddlers toys are. They where on a flat tray and reachable. So I put them oon the window sill away from their reach, but when I turned around the supervisor said, "It's alright, the children know what they are doing when they have them"

(here's a pic of them I got from the net, the same ones too, http://www.goodcookshop.com/tmp/assets/1113218713789.jpg)

The children played with them by poking holes in paper.

When I told my parents, the first thing my dad said was, "I'm 45 and I could easily fall with one of them, I'd report that creche!"

My mam said the same.

What should I do?

The children were taking toys off the shelf, (and the cob holders). Their ages where between 2 and 5.

here's another pic.

okay- well these aren't toys. if the children use them for "art" then it should be locked away in an art closet and used under supervision only...not put on a toy shelf.

Personally, I would never trust a two year old with a sharp object and I think that having a tray full of corn cob holders in a creche is a disaster waiting to happen. Your parents are right, you should definitely report the staff to the relevant authorities. You should also send a letter to the creche manager telling her of your concerns and of your intent to report the incident. And if you have children there, I would consider finding another creche, if the staff think that corn cob holders are suitable implements for small children to handle, what else are they playing with?

They are definitely not toys and are unsafe for kids. Sure they may know what they're for but kids are kids and do silly things and could easily get hurt. They could accidentally leave them in a seat or fall over while holding them. I would take this matter further and go above your supervisor, if that person doesn't agree with you then report the creche to a higher body.

You are right to be concerned. This is not okay, and the kids should not be playing with them - surely it is against guidelines too. Yes, maybe noone has been hurt, but what about if someone gets poked in the eye or accidently stabbed with one or poke it in an electrical socket to see what happens? Are you working there or are you a parent? I would request that they be taken away if I was a parent, or tell the Manager if you are on work experience or something like that. It they are for art, maybe you can find an alternative item for the kids to use such as a safe paper punch of some type or safety scissors or something like that. While honesty is the best policy, maybe you could tell a white lie that you poked yourself with one while cleaning up so have relocated the corn cob holders to the staff kitchen area. Tell a parent or ask your parents to tell someone if you can't. Good luck.

I would definitely tell someone. My daughter is 22 months and knows not to play with certain things, but obviously they're still out of reach because it only takes your back turned for 2 seconds before they hurt themselves or someone else. Or to be running with them and trip over their feet and accidentally stab themselves. That should not be in the toddler section, it's made for food so shouldn't it be in the section for kitchen utensils?! That supervisor was just too lazy to bring them over where they belong!

I think your mum and dad is right to say report them. After all the supervisor made it clear that the sharpe objects were fine.
