I think a good gift idea is a gift card to a fun baby photographer like Picture People, and a really cute frame.

Wait until she registers. The best thing you could get her is something from her registry. Nothing upset me more than when no one shopped off of my registry for my baby shower. I ended up having to buy everything I needed and have so many clothes for my son that he'll never even get the chance to wear.
If you want to do something special and go the extra mile, after the baby arrives, open a savings account for him/her.

A really cute Idea would be a Diaper Cake... Roll up diapers and tie them all with yarn (like a diploma kinda) put a bunch together to make the base. Wrap with ribbon. Make a smaller layer. Then stick it in a basket with a stuffed animal on top. You can add extras too.

I just had my baby shower and got a couple really cute things......One was a clothes baskets with clothes pinned to clothesline - it was wrapped in a blanket so when I pulled the blanket off it was the end of the clothesline that said "Pull" and when I did, the clothes kept coming. Really cute. My sister painted us a ceramic piggy bank for the baby which was also really cool. Sentimental is always a good thing. Practical is always appreciated too. You need a lot of STUFF for a baby.

If its her first, they never seem to have enough of the little things. New borns go through onesies constantly. My wife used cloth diapers for burp towels. Wipes, disposable diapers, booties, receiving blankets, wash clothes. A lot of small things sometimes is better than one big gift. Place them in a nice basket with a candle, small tea pot and some tea for your sister.

i would've loved to get a 'baby memory' book at my baby shower...

some good ideas are:
*are basket full of essentials - singlets, jumpsuits, nappies, facewashers, washing powder, breast pads etc...
*a nice outfit (white/orange/green/yellow)
*i would've also like something for me as well - something to make me feel more pretty like a voucher to get a manicure etc
*baby bath and put facewashers, baby towel and baby wash etc inside it

i am now near the end of my pregnancy and now know how expensive all baby stuff is... i'm not that rich so i appreciate when ppl stock me up with nappies, powder, wipes... even maternity pads (need heaps of them and they arent cheap), new knickers are awesome, as well as comfy nighty... i never would have thought those items were so important at the start of my pregnancy

You should definitelyy check out
www.cradlebums.etsy.com
They have all kinds of great baby shower gifts. It is so cool that their baby stuff is trendy and unique- way better than anything you might find at a regular old store!
My personal opinion- is the diaper clutch! Its a small bag with a wristlet attached that fits a few diapers and a wipes case.
I did not have one of these with my first child, but I do now with my second. It really makes things so much easier. The diaper don't end up wadded up at the bottom of your diaper bag! And you don't have to haul around a big luggage bag just to go to the store!!
